Water-based PU resin (PUD, PU dispersion, waterborne PU) is not a single product line at Gabriel but a complete system: the resin itself, the additives that go with it, and formulation advice shaped around your application. What usually decides the outcome is not the resin on its own — it is whether the whole formulation suits your line.

Processes it runs on

Change the process and the formulation has to change with it. Our water-based PU can be used for:

The same resin behaves differently across these three processes. Viscosity, solid content and drying conditions all have to be adjusted to suit.

The additives are where formulations are won or lost

Most suppliers hand you the resin and leave you to source the additives and work out the formulation yourself. We supply the whole set:

We handle flame retardancy differently: the flame-retardant component is reacted into the PU resin itself rather than added afterwards. That markedly improves durability, wash fastness and repeat-ignition performance, and removes the problem of the retardant migrating to the surface.

These additives can be supplied alongside the resin or bought on their own — a complete formulation or a single item you happen to be short of, either is fine.

Honestly though, a phone call is usually faster. A table can only tell you what class of product we make; it cannot tell you which grade suits your process. That depends on your application, your equipment and the properties you are targeting — and once we have asked, our recommendation is often not the grade you first picked.

Gabriel's materials are usually not the cheapest.

But unit price is not the only cost. The expensive part of adopting water-based PU is rarely the resin — it is the trial and error: unexplained defects, repeated adjustment, a line standing idle. We look at the processing method, treatment steps, labour hours and yield as a whole, to make your total cost more efficient.

If all you need is the lowest unit price, the market has plenty of options. If you are solving a problem nobody else can solve — then we should talk.
